The American

Civil

War Collection

The Civil War Teacher Pack focuses on key elements of the Civil War and includes all the information a teacher needs to plan and execute lessons.

Civil War Teacher Pack

What does the Teacher Pack look like?

The screen shot below shows how the file will be displayed (in this example on a Microsoft Windows XP computer) when the Zipped file has been opened.

As you can see the files look exactly the same as any other Windows type file.  Double-left-clicking on the relevant folder and then on the files.  These will open the map or document using standard software on your computer (apart from the .pdf files which require Adobe Acrobat reader, available for free from Adobe and the Google Earth files which require the free Google Earth application from Google).

What does the Civil War School Pack contain?

The Civil War Teacher Pack contains a large mix of different material from lesson plans to Google Earth battlefield map overlays.  The table below attempts to quantify the relative contents and file size of each section within the Teacher Pack.

All the lesson plans are freely available on the internet and have been included in the Teacher Pack where practical.  The most important and best sources of teacher guides and lessons plans are shown in more detail in the Useful Links section.

(Notes: The above figures are intended to give users an idea of the number of files in each section.  Every effort has been made to make sure the numbers are accurate but the odd small error may have crept in.

A small number of files (lesson plans, images, source documents, Placemarks etc) have been duplicated where they are essential in different topics.  Many Lesson plans counted above contain multiple exercises so the true number of lesson plans is higher then shown here.

In addition, included in the total file numbers above are a vast amount of source material which can easily be adapted by teachers and used to create new lesson plans.
